The Fallyn Bag Brought Out the Best in the Testers' Creativity

Lisa Stewart color-blocked crossbody strap pockets testers' makes The Fallyn Bag vinyl

Our group of testers enthusiastically unleashed their creativity on Kaya Papaya Design's first pattern of 2022, The Fallyn Bag. They have shared so many excellent photos so you can see all the details both here and on the pattern product page. Resources for the materials used by each tester are listed here as well.

If you're still feeling this bag may be challenging for you, Kassiah has a well-done sew-along that follows the pattern step-by-step.

Get ready for eye-candy:

Tester Leslie Anthony's bag is stunning in one color. The vinyl is from Philmore Upholstery along with rose gold Hardware from Emmaline and SiahSwagBags. The fun surprise interior is quilting cotton. As a substitute for the SF101, she used Geeky Fuse by Wizardry Stitchery and Crafts - Geeky Hardware Edition. Her beautiful bag was sewn on a Techsew Cylinder Arm 2750 Pro.

We can always count on Ulrike Puckering to try something just a little bit different with her fabric choices. The grey fabric is cotton canvas with a pink polyester knit in upholstery weight. She used cotton for the lining and Vilene G700 for the interfacing.  She substituted Decovil Heavy for structure to the bag. The hardware is from Trimmingshop UK and the bag was sewn on a Singer 201K. Notice the 2-fabric strap and the omission of purse feet.

Donna Dickerson tried out some color combos onscreen before making a decision. It's amazing to see the image in reality.
Three cork fabrics from Fabric Funhouse make up the exterior, along with the flap trim from Emmaline. The lining fabric is Bumble Buzz by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics. Her bag was sewn on a Juki 1541S and a Juki ti18.
She omitted the crossbody strap for personal choice and was short on fabric for the glasses holder.
Donna was generous and shared her blank coloring page with us to include in the pattern!

A sophisticated, classy-looking bag was created by Kellie Toles. She added Decovil light to the exterior pieces to add more structure to the black marine vinyl and faux snakeskin from Big Z Fabric, along with the peach marine vinyl from Marine Vinyl Fabric. The beautiful coral lining is waterproof canvas (WPC) from Fabric Wholesale Direct. The copper hardware is from Emmaline Bags.
Kellie opted not to use the edge trim on the flap.

When Rebecca Hansen was designing her bag, she realized that Leslie Anthony was doing something similar. So she decided to leave off the flap. She sourced the exterior faux leather from Bo Dee-Oh and the hardware from Emmaline. The lining is a heavy canvas from Spoonflower - no interfacing needed! She used Decovil heavy in place of the Peltex for the bottom. Rebecca was very enthusiastic about the multiple pockets, and with kids still at home, she thinks The Fallyn Bag would make a great diaper bag or travel bag.

Becca Olson has been a part of our testing group since we launched our first pattern! She planned to make two bags - her sewing machine had different plans - but she persevered and created two beauties. Notice she bound the top on the brown bag. She sourced all hardware from Amazon, and her vinyls and fabrics from Bo Dee-Oh, Joann's, and Frogjelly Leather at Etsy.

When you're sick of snow, it's time to go Tropical. Sue Reed did just that, using a custom vinyl for the center panels. The exterior is Mora faux leather from Emmaline. as is the hardware. The lining is cordura (WPC). She used decovil light as a stabilizer for the exterior pieces. This gorgeous bag was sewn on a titan 1341 cylinder (same as a Techsew 4800 pro).

Kassiah Myers sewed along with the testing group making the video for The Fallyn Bag. We're thrilled to have her do the sew-along for the pattern. Notice that she made a two-sided strap and added strap ends. She sourced the beautiful floral vinyl from Your Vinyl Source, the white vinyl from Bo Dee-Oh, and the faux leather from IndoLoveKreation. The metal flap trim is from Emmaline Bags, and all other hardware is from SiahSwagBags. The cotton lining is from Hawthorne Threads.
