This is The Janie Pouch modified to include a wrist strap and interior slip pocket. It is intended for those new to bagmaking and goes through ten steps of beginning bagmaking techniques. If you know your way around a sewing machine and tools, you are ready for this pattern! If you are a confident bagmaker, you may find the original Janie Pouch pattern more to your liking. 

Designed for the Beginning Bag Making class taught on Zoom on November 11, 2020. The YouTube sew-along video is now available. This super beginner-friendly cosmetic bag/clutch pattern will teach you the following skills:

  • Following a PDF pattern
  • Using interfacing for stability
  • Making a slip pocket
  • Making a wrist strap
  • Adding zipper tabs
  • Making pleats
  • Inserting a zipper
  • Boxing corners
  • Turning (birthing) a bag
  • Pressing for best results

Take 3 fat quarters, a 10-inch (or larger zipper - it will be cut down), and a yard of Pellon Shape Flex SF101, and you'll have a new bag in about 90 minutes. After cutting and prepping your fabric pieces, follow along on the video with great close-up work, clear instructions, and helpful tips. 

The finished size is 9"W x 6"H x 3"D
